A farmhouse-style attached suite nearly finished in Harnett County — solved with a creative attached design that saved the client a driveway, a clearing job, and thousands in infrastructure costs.
About This Project
The Situation
A grandparent wanted to be closer to their children and grandchildren — same property, daily life together, but with their own front door. The family started by asking for a detached ADU in the backyard.
The Challenge
A detached build on this lot would have required a separate driveway, land clearing, and its own full infrastructure run. The existing septic couldn’t be expanded to cover a detached unit, and a separate power service would have been required. The numbers didn’t work.
What We Built
A 600–700 sq ft attached suite with an open carport — 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom — connected to the existing home. A dedicated septic system was designed for the ADU alone. No new driveway. No clearing. The carport solved parking without adding square footage. The grandparent will be moving in with their own entrance, their own space, and their family next door.
